Physical Plant

The University owns and operates more than five hundred buildings of varying sizes and characteristics, spread over a wide geographic area, and encompassing approximately 18.8 million gross square feet of space. The physical plant provides living space for students and faculty, research facilities to advance our base of knowledge, and classroom and library spaces for the dissemination of knowledge. In light of the programmatic significance of its facilities, Harvard has made new efforts in recent years to ensure that the physical plant is well maintained and that capital projects are carefully designed and managed.
