The FAD Career Development Collaboration Team (CDCT) is charged with the development of recommendations for how FAD can better
support career development for all FAD employees.
This includes employees who wish to "move up", as well as those who wish to enhance their knowledge and skill set within their present job.
Recommendations will include, but need not be limited to, the following:
Suggestions for FAD leadership on how to:
- clarify policies related to career development, and
- develop an FAD culture of openness and transparency re: job searches
- Strategies to strengthen FAD as a community through enhanced networking opportunities and FAD-wide communication about FAD departments, services, and job openings.
- Development of an FAD career "road map", clarifying job families and highlighting relatedness of positions across department.
- Clarification of the roles of employees, managers and hiring managers in the career development process.
- Suggestions for improving the PDP process, enhancing mangers competence, confidence and willingness to provide excellent performance feedback and career coaching.
- The Center for Workplace Development (CWD) has revised the career development site on HARVie and it now incorporates new features that are designed to make it easier to access relevant career information (including Career Roadmaps Online, Career Profiles, Career Tip of the Month, and Job Choices at Harvard). These new resources will provide additional means for all FAD staff to further their professional development efforts.
The CWD career development site can be accessed at: http://careerdevelopment.harvie.harvard.edu.
- The CDT is up and running once again and is actively exploring mentoring program possibilities for FAD; we hope to develop a program that meets the needs of FAD staff so please let us know if you have any ideas.
- Michael Monaghan (RMAS) has taken over the reigns as Chair for our group. He is an effective leader, a thoughtful decision-maker, a great listener, and is deeply committed to FAD's professional development efforts.
The CDT meets monthly and welcomes comments on any aspects of career development. The team can be reached at: FADCareerDevTeam@harvard.edu.
The FAD Career Development Team (CDT) is pleased to announce the "FAD Department Overview" series. This series, which will be delivered by each of the FAD Department Directors, was created in response to the "What's Your Harvard Like" survey in March 2006. The goal of the series is to create more visibility into the different organizations in FAD and to provide more information about the job families & career opportunities in those departments.
