CSMA

What is CSMA?

CSMA (the Chart Security Maintenance Application) is a custom-built Oracle application to streamline requests related to Harvard University's Chart of Accounts (CoA). CSMA permits Harvard's authorized requestors to submit and review chart maintenance requests.

Harvard's Chart of Accounts has seven segments (tub, org, object, fund, activity, subactivity and root). Tub authorized requestors (AR's) can submit requests to add, modify or disable existing org, fund, activity, subactivity and root values. General Accounting personnel have oversight for updates to the tub and object segments.

  • Disable existing CoA values
  • Re-enable CoA values that were previously disabled

CSMA routes changes directly to the General Ledger (GL). CSMA loads CoA changes to the GL four times a day, at 8 am, 11 am, 2pm and 5 pm. CoA requests that require approval will be routed to an approver prior to being uploaded. At any given point, an authorized requestor can check the request status to verify its current state within the lifecycle of a request. Should an issue arise email notifications, error messages or alerts will be triggered.

How to Obtain Access to CSMA

CSMA uses the security applied to the Oracle e-business suite.

Each Tub has a designated Authorized Requestor who is responsible for submitting requests for system access. Your manager or supervisor will help you determine the applications and the level of access that you will require for your job. Your Authorized Requestor will then submit the appropriate request(s) for access. For more information and to obtain the list of authorized requestors, see the Client Services section.

  • Users are limited to certain CSMA application screens, forms, and actions by role (approver, requestor, or system administrator)
  • Users are limited to certain actions based on their role
  • Within their role, users may be limited to certain segment types (ORG, FUND, ACTIVITY, SUBACTIVITY, or ROOT). Within these segment types, users may be limited by range of values to which they have been granted access

CSMA uses the security applied to the Oracle e-business suite. Since CSMA uses the Oracle forms, reports, menus and functions, the security is based on the same Oracle responsibility structure as the other Oracle applications. Additional security is applied to those accessing the Harvard Data Warehouse and CREW.

Training

There are no instructor-led classes for CSMA. An extensive list of job aids designed to help users with CSMA is available at the ABLE site.
