A Message from Dan Shore, Acting CFO:
Welcome to the FAD Web Site!
Since assuming the role of Acting CFO in mid-April, I have seen many reasons for optimism. I have enjoyed getting to know more about FAD and, more importantly, about our highly talented staff who are dedicated to our priority areas of focus: compliance (including the SAS 112 initiative and continued enhancements to sponsored programs administration); customer service; supporting senior leadership on a variety of financial planning and management topics; supporting efforts to consider how the Allston campus might advance important institutional objectives; and facilitating an ever-increasing number of international initiatives.
I am glad to have met so many of you in various settings over the past few months. One of the more rewarding of these gatherings was a planning retreat that the direct reports and I hosted on July 8th. For the first time in a while, we pulled together the “extended” leadership team (i.e., me, my direct reports, and their direct reports). We thought it would be helpful to engage the broader leadership community to better ensure education, collaboration, and connection across the various FAD groups. We also spent time discussing our collective desire to develop a more uniform FAD culture. Many words were used to describe how we want to think of ourselves in FAD, including "teamwork," "inclusion," "risk taking," "strong leadership," "transparency," "feedback-oriented," and "cohesive." I found the conversation to be both productive and inspiring.
We are in the preliminary stages of planning for the next Town Hall meeting, which will be held on October 15th. Ed Forst, Harvard’s new Executive Vice President, expects to join us. Ed will be arriving at Harvard in September, although, he has spent this summer orienting himself to people and issues. Ed has a long and impressive list of credentials coupled with an abundance of energy and passion for Harvard’s mission – a combination that has me excited to hear his perspectives on how FAD might have even greater impact.
I look forward to working with all of you in the coming months, and learning more about the incredible breadth and depth we have within FAD.
Best,
Dan
