Users

There are 5 types of users of the Oracle applications and reporting environments at Harvard:

Harvard Employee - An individual with an active job record or appointment in Harvard's PeopleSoft (PS) Human Resources Management System (HRMS) and a valid HUID # (including Less Than Half Time employees (LHT)). Employees generally receive some form of benefits such as pension, medical, dental, vacation, sick days etc.

Temporary Harvard Employee - An individual with a job record in Harvard's PS HRMS and a valid HUID #. This definition includes Harvard and non-Harvard students with jobs. This group generally does not receive employee benefits. Payroll is driven by hours submitted each week.

Consultant - An independent contractor or individual representing a firm providing services for Harvard who may have a special ID # issued by Harvard University Identification and Data (HUID) Services.

Agency Employee - Employee hired on a short-term basis from an employment agency and may have a special ID # issued by HUID Services (e.g., Spherion Services, Inc.).

Affiliated Hospital Employee - An individual who performs Harvard business but is paid by one of the affiliated Harvard hospitals and may have a special ID # issued by HUID Services for the purpose of logging into the systems as themselves, or logon using another HUID# with special affiliate agreement.

Access

Harvard’s System Access Policy Access to Harvard’s financial systems depends on the category of user. Certain user types are not granted access to specific applications because of the level of risk to the University. Detailed information on what users may access which applications may be found in the University’s Systems Access policy.
