Awards may be received from a Sponsor as either a gift or in the form of a sponsored agreement.
Gift
In general, a gift award does not have terms that specify how the funding must
be spent or administered. As a gift, the funding received may be utilized at
the full discretion of the recipient. Unexpended funds are not returned to the
donor at the expiration of the gift period. Gifts are administered through the:

Sponsored Agreement
Sponsored agreements will have one or more of the following items:
Scholarly terms or a Statement of Work to define a line of scholar
or scientific inquiry
Formal deliverables such as annual progress reports or performance objectives
Specified terms regarding fiduciary responsibility or payment contingencies
Specified terms regarding disposition for property upon conclusion of the
project
Proposal (typically) submitted in a sponsor-required format
