| Requirements for Vendors |
All contractors and/or service vendors coming on to University premises to do work are required to have insurance. Insurance is necessary to cover any claims or losses for which the contractor/vendor may be responsible. Departments should request a Certificate of Insurance from the contractor or vendor prior to the beginning of work and/or at the start of the contract. A Certificate of Insurance is a standard form issued by the insurance company evidencing the insurance information (limits, type of insurance) of its policyholder.
The following insurance policies are required of all contractors and service vendors doing work at or for the University. This insurance is necessary to cover losses or claims arising out of the contractor or service vendor's negligence.
1. Comprehensive General Liability
Basic Comprehensive - Additional coverage may be required depending on the type of service.
2. Workers' Compensation
Statutory Limits required for two or more employees.
3. Automobile Liability
Required by any contractor or vendor operating a vehicle on University premises.
4. Professionals - Errors and Omissions
Attached is a link to a chart that provides the minimum limits of insurance by service type. Exceptions to these limits might be made under circumstances of limited risk exposure. However, the Insurance Department should specifically approve such exceptions.
