Increase to Travel Agency Fees

Important Change to PeopleSoft Desktop Standards for Macintosh Users
Oracle Financials Upgrade on October 17th
About the e-News

Increase to Travel Agency Fees      top

On September 1, 2006, airlines began charging an additional fee for segments booked through a GDS - General Distribution System.  This fee was driven by the airlines' desire to reduce their costs.  After an analysis of the situation, looking at the cost of doing business, and working on solutions to minimize the impact on their customers, the Travel Management Companies have notified us that a portion of this new cost will need to be passed on to us, their customers.

Effective immediately, the fee charged by the Harvard Travel Center (BCD) will increase by $1.60 per ticket. Corporate Expedia will begin charging an additional $2 per ticket beginning on October 1, 2006.

Important Change to PeopleSoft Desktop Standards for Macintosh Users      top

As of October 4, 2006, Macintosh users running Internet Explorer (IE) 5.0 will no longer be able to access PeopleSoft.  Please make sure that you have the latest version of Safari installed on your machine prior to this date. Contact your local desktop support for assistance as needed.

The previously supported combination of Macintosh OS 8 or 9 / IE 5.0 will be replaced by Macintosh OS X 10.3+ / Safari 2.0.4.

The new desktop standards for HR systems will be as follows:

     Operating Systems
          Windows 2000 Professional
          Windows XP Professional
Macintosh OS 10.3 and above *
     Software
          Internet Explorer 6.0 for Windows
          Safari 2.0.4 for Macintosh *

*   Use of the Macintosh is supported for HIRES self service (job postings) and PeopleSoft T&L and Employee self service only.  It is not supported for users of the HIRES Application or users of other PeopleSoft modules, Manager self-service, or upload/download tools such as ASIP, Costing, and Term Appointments.

Refer to ABLE for the complete updated University desktop standards.

New J-Initiator

A new J-initiator software plug-in (version 1.3.1.26) will be required to use Oracle Financials once the upgrade to 11.5.10 is completed. The Harvard version of the new J-initiator is currently available from the UIS Helpdesk website and can be installed on your desktop in advance of the upgrade. It will also be available for download from the VPF applications log-in page beginning October 16. Because installation requires that you have administrative rights to your desktop, we recommend that you request help from your local desktop support to assist in installing the plug-in.
